MEET YOUR COACH

Nikos Moumouris
Strength Coach, Physical Educator
and
Lifelong Student of Human Movement.

30 years of coaching experience. Two countries. Thousands of clients. One consistent philosophy, movement quality first, everything else follows.

THE BEGINNING

I Didn’t Start as a Personal Trainer.
I Started as a Teacher, Coach and Fitness Instructor.

Before Edinburgh, before PureGym and before the certifications on this page, I was a Physical Education and Sport Science graduate from the National Kapodistrian University of Athens.

My training was not a weekend course, it was a four-year academic programme built around anatomy, biomechanics, physiology and coaching methodology.

After graduating, I began working as a Physical Education teacher, children’s coach and fitness instructor in Greece.

Those early years shaped the way I still coach today.

Working with children taught me patience, communication and how to adapt coaching to different personalities and abilities. Working as a fitness instructor taught me how to guide people safely, build confidence and help clients develop consistency over time.

That combination of education and real-world coaching experience changed the way I understood training forever.

I did not simply learn how to count repetitions or write workouts. I learned how the human body moves, why it moves the way it does and what happens when movement quality breaks down.

Every client I have coached since carries that foundation with them, whether they realise it or not.

For me, coaching has never been about trends, shortcuts or quick fixes. It has always been about understanding people, understanding movement and helping clients build strength they can sustain for life.

THE JOURNEY

From Teacher to Coach, and Still Learning Every Day

Corfou, Greece, The Early Years

I began my career as a Physical Education teacher in Greece, while also working in conditioning coaching within football teams and coaching talented young children through a government development programme.

The aim of the programme was not early specialisation, but broad physical development, movement skills, and helping children discover which sport suited them best for future progression.

Those years taught me some of the most important lessons in coaching.

Every person develops differently, every athlete responds differently, and no programme works exactly the same for everybody.

Working with children also taught me patience, communication, and the importance of building strong movement foundations before performance becomes the priority.

Those principles still shape the way I coach today.

Broadening My Coaching Experience

Over the following years I continued developing as a football coach, working with a UEFA B coaching qualification, while also expanding my knowledge of strength training, conditioning, and athletic development.

Football coaching taught me how to manage different personalities, develop athletes over time, and understand movement under pressure and fatigue.

Alongside this, I continued building experience in gym based training, general fitness instruction, and performance focused conditioning.

Much later in Edinburgh, I completed the Hatton Boxing Instructor qualification, which I now occasionally incorporate into personal training sessions for clients who enjoy variety within their workouts.

These experiences helped me develop a broader understanding of coaching, movement, and long term athletic development beyond traditional gym training alone.

Edinburgh, Becoming a Specialist

Moving to Edinburgh marked another important stage in my development as a coach.

I pursued advanced qualifications including:

Level 4 Strength and Conditioning NASM Physique and Bodybuilding Coach NASM Nutrition Coach NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist

I did not pursue certifications simply to collect credentials.

Each qualification filled a genuine gap in my ability to help the people I was coaching.

The more experience I gained, the more I realised that great coaching requires continuous learning.

PureGym Edinburgh Exchange Centre, Today

Today I work with a deliberately small number of clients at PureGym Edinburgh Exchange Centre.

I am 59 years old, I still train seriously myself, and I understand from personal experience what it means to manage a demanding body over decades.

Some clients come to me after years away from training with pain, low confidence, and no clear direction.

Others are experienced lifters frustrated by plateaus caused by poor movement quality, inconsistent programming, or years of training without proper guidance.

What my clients usually have in common is simple,

They are looking for real coaching, not a training partner with a clipboard.

HOW I COACH

Three Principles I Have Never Compromised

Movement Quality Before Everything

No programme I write prioritises load over mechanics, and a client who moves poorly under heavy weight is not progressing, they are accumulating a future injury.

Every new client begins with a movement assessment regardless of their experience level, and we build the foundation before we build the house.

The Programme Serves the Person

Generic programmes produce generic results.

Every client I work with receives coaching built around their body, their history, their limitations and their life.

After decades of coaching, I know the best programme is not the theoretically perfect one. It is the programme the client can follow consistently, recover from properly and sustain long term.

Education Is Part of Every Session

A client who understands why they are doing something will always outperform one who is simply following instructions.

I coach with explanation.

By the end of our work together, you should understand your body, your movement and your training in a way that serves you for the rest of your life, with or without a coach.

I do not believe in extreme methods or unsustainable approaches.
My goal is to help clients build strength, movement quality and confidence that lasts for life, not just for a few weeks.

PERSONAL NOTE

A Few Words From Me

I’ve been coaching for decades, and at 59 I still love this work more than ever. Not because of the gym, or the numbers, or the programmes, but because of the people. I still find every client’s progress genuinely interesting, and that curiosity is what keeps me sharp, patient and fully invested in the process.

I’ve lived long enough, trained long enough and coached long enough to understand that real progress isn’t built in 12 weeks. It’s built through consistency, clarity and learning how to train in a way that supports your life, not competes with it.

“I do not train people for 12 weeks and move on. I teach people how to train for the rest of their lives.”

My philosophy is simple: move well, train with purpose, and build a body you can rely on for decades. I care about longevity, strength that lasts, confidence that grows, and habits that stay with you long after the programme ends.
